Only a couple of drawings this week, but I am getting closer to finishing my “opposite of Son” oil painting.

I think I’ll have an entire series of creations ready soon. I’ve heard and read that art galleries love that stuff. And it just so happens I’ll finally have some creations with a common feminine, religious theme: two pretty hot topics in Kansas, unfortunately. I may even end up with another painting; we’ll see.

My SmArt School class starts next Saturday. I initially signed up for a free audit of Rebecca Guay’s illustration class, which would have let me sit through the entire course and listen to her interact with other students. But the class was canceled, so I had to choose a different instructor. I went with Sam Weber. Guay and Weber (along with George Pratt) seemed to be the only artists in this group who aren’t hellbent on living in realism. A good portion of the others just seem to be concept artists obsessed with detail. The whole “realism with a fantasy hat” theme.

I’ve also started working on my graphic novel. I’ve been jotting down notes, outlines, and little stories into a Google Doc as they come to me. I want to build a whole world because I think that gives readers the chance to dig as deep as they want. I’ll share more details as I go, but I think this will end up being one of my longer projects. I’ve already been thinking about it for years.
