I’m a self taught, contemporary artist working in oil, ink, graphite and watercolor. My work often begins with the female figure as an invitation.

Beauty has the wonderful ability to command our attention, inviting us to pause longer than we normally would. Beyond the first impression, my work explores ideas of absence, longing, memory, death, and everything in between. I strive to create tension between technical realism and emotional ambiguity.

Beauty can always start the conversation, but it should never end it. 

 

I value immediacy above everything else in my work. The first marks are the purest because they create a level of honesty that will never be found in revisions. re-works or paint-overs.

The primary inspiration for my work comes from my wife, Maria. She is a daily reminder that genuine beauty is inseparable from presence and love. I hope this sense of humanity is carried into every figure I create.
